About Me

I am passionate about the benefits of counselling and the positive changes that good therapy triggers. My initial study and training was in Psycho-dynamic counselling and this gave me an excellent grounding and skills with regards to attachment, loss and change.

I went on to do an integrative foundation degree which also incorporated Person Centred methods and skills, and this increased my focus on unconditional positive regard.  I adapt my approach to each individual or couple as people come with varying presenting issues and unique personalities.

After gaining some experience, I went on to do a level five Diploma in Relationship Counselling. This is based on Systemic theory, used as the basis for RELATE counsellors.

I became a RELATE counsellor and found that to be invaluable experience.  I have worked with issues such as affairs, communication problems and loss of libido, loss and change and have experience working with both individuals and couples.  I have also worked with young people with issues such as gender identification, bullying, stress and panic attacks and suicide ideation.  I was a volunteer for the SAMARITANS prior to becoming a counsellor.

I also worked for VICTIM SUPPORT in a volunteering capacity offering emotional and practical support both face to face and over the telephone to people involved in various situations including Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence, Hate crime, Burglary and Knife Crime. The intensive training included a three-day seminar on Domestic violence, Safeguarding and core training and working with young people.

I have also been a counsellor for a Cancer charity, working with people and families who are affected by cancer and I have experience with terminal illness, bereavement and physical change following surgery.

I have a first class honours degree in Counselling Solutions, incorporating C.B.T. and Solution Focused modalities. I work to the BACP ethical framework and safety is always my primary consideration.  I offer short, medium and long-term therapy.  I do not stipulate a minimum or maximum amount of sessions.
